If you ever interact with someone who has chronic illness…

If I don’t call you as much as I should… please give me a break

If I have to cancel plans because I’m feeling too badly…please give me a break

If I share that I am in tremendous pain too much…please give me a break

If I turn down an invitation to do something because it’s too physically difficult for me…please give me a break.

If I forget to return a phone call because of my failing memory that is often clouded by pain medication (or lack of)…please give me a break.

If I don’t cook a four course meal for my family every day…please give me a break.

If I’m walking too slowly through the store and I’m slowing you down it’s only because I’m hurting…please give me a break.

If I can’t go do things that involve spending money know that any extra money I have goes to pay for my medical care…please give me a break.

If you see me at the park with my kids and I’m sitting on a bench instead of playing with them I’m doing the best I can…please give me a break.

If I talk too much about my disease please know that this disease has taken my whole life from me and sometimes it’s the center of my world…please give me a break.

If I have to cancel plans because my health status has changed…please give me a break.

If my home is not perfectly clean every moment of every day…please give me a break.

If you notice that I’ve gained weight it’s because of my medications and not because I eat like a hog…please give me a break.

If I am really quiet and not participating in a conversation it’s because I’m feeling very badly…please give me a break.

If you disagree with me on the medical treatments that I am getting be aware that I’m practically an expert on being sick and that I have tried many different things and I’m running out of options…please give me a break.

If I look like a got ran over by a truck…please give me a break.
