How the Hummingbird relieves fibromyalgia pain

What is the Hummingbird and how does it relieve pain?

I’m happy to review the Hummingbird for chronic pain. I’ve tried many different medical devices that aim to lessen Fibromyalgia pain. So far my favorite by far has been the Quell device, but now it may have some competition in the Hummingbird by Vital Motion. The Hummingbird is a non-invasive medical device that is designed to alleviate the muscle aches, pain, fatigue, and related symptoms associated with fibromyalgia and other chronic health conditions.

How does the Hummingbird work?

When one’s heart, arms, and brain don’t get adequate blood circulation, widespread pain, lack of energy/poor sleep, and “fibro fog” can occur. The Hummingbird works by using low amplitude, low-frequency physical massage therapy that causes muscles in each calf to pump blood and fluid from the lower leg back to the heart. Once this occurs, it improves the circulation of the blood throughout the body and to the brain and reduces symptoms. In the typical person who is sitting and standing, blood and fluid that accumulates in the lower extremities are pumped back to the heart by the contractions of the soleus muscle in the calf of the leg. However, for some people, especially people with Fibromyalgia, the soleus muscle is not activated by the nervous system and these people may experience inadequate lower extremity circulation causing some unpleasant symptoms. The Hummingbird uses non-invasive stimulation of the front half of the soles of your feet to stimulate the soleus muscles to properly function.

Many users of the Hummingbird have reported that after a few weeks of using the Hummingbird their aches and pains have been reduced, while their sleep and energy have experienced a boost. Vital Motion completed a home study of the Hummingbird device and found that the top 75% of subjects experienced 43.2 % symptom improvements and 72.7% increased daily activity.

How do you use the Hummingbird?

It’s incredibly simple to use because all you have to do is place your feet on top of it, and you don’t even need to take off your shoes. I’ve placed my Hummingbird under my desk so I can use it whenever I’m working. It’s easy to place my feet on top and go on with my day.

Ideally, the Hummingbird should be used twice daily for 30 minutes. To control the amount of time you use it and the strength of the vibrations there is a Hummingbird app that makes it easy to use.

Will the Hummingbird work for me?

I love the Hummingbird. The vibrating sensations are comforting and they block the pain while I’m using it, and for some time afterward. However, if you are very sensitive to vibrations this device will probably not work for you. While it’s easy to control the strength of the vibrations, even on the lowest strength you can still feel it. For me, that is a positive thing because I like vibrations, but I know some Fibromyalgia patients are more sensitive.

Probably the hardest part of the Hummingbird for me was making sure that I did 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. Most weekdays that’s easy as I work on my computer, however, the weekends are a different story. As the Hummingbird requires sitting in a chair I do see this as a possible obstacle for some people. However, for me, it was absolutely worth it because I saw my pain levels decrease significantly when I regularly used it.

    1. Hi, I am also curious if one can use the Quell and Hummingbird in conjunction with each other? At different times of day or alternating days?
Or better yet how would you compare the two machines?
