Crazy people, part 2

I did a post here about crazy people with fibromyalgia. I think it is time I dedicate a post to the crazy people with Lyme disease and the crazy people that THINK they have Lyme disease.

Lyme disease is a controversial illness, partly because the tests to diagnose are so notoriously inaccurate. Because of the test inaccuracies, Lyme disease often is a diagnoses based off of eliminating other diseases and by symptoms, much like MS.  The problem is that there are people who wake up one day, decide they have Lyme disease for whatever reason, and then go from doctor to doctor until they find one who agrees with them (they are called LLMD’s, Lyme Literate Medical Doctors, some are real, some are total phonies). This is frustrating for me, as someone who actually has it, because “lymies” get a bad reputation for being nut jobs, much like people with fibro.

The other crazies are those who think everything is caused by Lyme disease, fibro, CFS, MS, Alzheimers, Lou Gehrig’s disease etc. This is a very popular idea in the Lyme community, and that is going way to far. I think there is link between fibro, CFS, and Lyme in some cases (mine obviously), but I do not think that they are 100% in every case caused by Lyme. That’s just nuts, and by saying that “lymies” will think I’m a horrible person who is siding with the evil medical system that is out to get us.

I wonder what it would be like to have a normal disease that isn’t full of crazies.
