Pain affects memory and mood

I read an article found here about how chronic pain can affect our memory and mood. In this study researchers found that those who suffer from chronic pain have a smaller hippocampus than healthy people. I find this fascinating  More and more studies are being done to learn more about chronic pain, fibromyalgia, etc. and while there doesn’t seem to be any huge breakthroughs in finding a cure, it’s a start.

It would be really great if my pain didn’t affect my memory and my mood, but unfortunately it does. I basically can’t remember anything anymore, even the most basic thing. Yesterday I managed to put my phone through the washer, I can’t even blame my son for that one (he’s destroyed several of my phones in the past), this one is all me being an idiot! The way I cope with the memory of an 80 year old is to write everything down, if I don’t write it down, it won’t happen. Unfortunately writing things down won’t help you to remember your phone is on your bed and you should take it off before you gather your sheets up to put in the laundry. I really wish there was a magic pill to give me my memory back, I feel like I’ve turned into a full blown idiot these days. It will be interesting to see how research on this topic progresses, and who knows, maybe one day there will be a memory pill!
