Today’s Wego Health post: Write about how you deal with mean comments/trolls/snake oil/bullies.
No original artwork today, I know everyone is disappointed about that.
Honestly my personal blogging experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I’m gotten only 1 comment that could be considered negative and I felt like it was just a blogging right of passage. My first reaction was to furiously type an angry paragraph identifying the commenter as an idiot/troll/moron/nincompoop/ or all of the above. I was good though, I deleted the paragraph when I realized I was probably just be reinforcing the stereotype that all people with Fibromyaglia are total nut jobs. I try on a daily basis to not to reinforce that stereotype so I typed a calm and rational response.
I do find it interesting that some of my most popular posts are the ones negative ones dedicated to crazy people with Lyme disease and Fibromyalgia. Most of the visitors seem to come here from google searching something like…
– “Fibromyalgia crazy people” or
– “Are people with Lyme disease psychopaths?” or
-“What is wrong with the mind of people with fibromyalgia?” or
– “Why don’t people with Lyme disease just get over it?” etc.
It really warms my heart, let me tell you. I’m itching to correct these people’s bad assumptions but they never comment! I would like to hope that they’ve read my posts and changed their minds after learning from my wisdom, but I highly doubt it.
For me, what it comes down to is this, there will always be negative people out there with negative things to say. You can reply to them rationally and calmly and sometimes that will work, but sometimes that type of person just wants to be hateful. If that is the case, then you just have to ignore them and let them deal with the consequences of their hate. You can’t let negative people get you down, that’s exactly what they want to happen.
