10 fascinating tools on my chronic pain wish list

Every day there are new devices and tools are emerging to treat chronic pain. I’ve been lucky to try a few of them, but of course, I don’t have unlimited money. So I’ve developed a wish list of things I would love to try in a world where money was no object. Here’s a list of things that I think might help my pain:

Tools for chronic pain

1. Infrared Heating Mat

I go through so many heating pads that I would love to try one of these infrared heating mats. I don’t know if they would work better or not, but I would love to find out.

2. Red Light Therapy

I hadn’t ever heard of this until I was looking through my FSA plan’s store and this was one of the objects for sale. After researching it, I’m super curious to see if it helps people. The reviews seem to be fairly mixed, either it works or it doesn’t.

3. BioWaveGO  Wearable Chronic Pain Relief Technology

I’ve never tried this, nor do I know anyone that has, but I’m super curious as to whether it works. All of the pain relief devices I’ve tried have helped somewhat, but only the Quell have I kept using on a regular basis because it made a huge difference. The Oksa Pulse, a device that many bloggers seem to love only helped me some, and its effects sadly diminished over time.

4. Hemp cream for pain relief

This one isn’t as outrageously expensive as the others, but I’ve tried so many pain creams I can’t even count how much money I’ve wasted over the years. Of course, most of them helped a little bit, but biofreeze is the only one I’ve stuck with as it’s affordable and it works.

5. Cryosphere cold massage roller

This thing looks super cool, and unlike some of the other things on my wish list, is actually affordable. The reviews seem to be fairly positive, however, for me, the downside would be that I’d need another person to use it on me. As wonderful as my kids are, they aren’t to be relied upon for that sort of thing!

6. Vibrating pain relief mask

This seems like it would be amazing for headaches, migraines, or sinus problems (all of which I have). I think the key would be using it before a migraine got too bad though, otherwise, it would just be too painful.

7. Vibrating Foot Massager

Okay, I sense a theme of vibration for pain. Clearly I vibration helps my pain, though I know for others it can aggravate it. I just think this would feel amazing. And not just for my feet, but it could help my leg pain as well. I’m well aware that there are cheaper foot massagers, but of course, I would like to try the expensive one.

8. Heated mattress pad

This would be another interesting replacement for a heating pad. I wouldn’t be able to use it all year round since it’s so hot where I live. However, using it in the winter could be amazing. For whatever reason, my pain responds to direct heat (not indirect heat, sadly).

9. Memory foam car seat cushion

This is one I may actually be able to buy for myself someday since it’s reasonably priced. I spend a lot of time in my car driving my kids around, or on long car trips, and I could really use a seat cushion.

10. Weighted blanket

I’m cheating slightly on this one because I do already have a small weighted blanket. I actually bought it for my son, and loved it so much I bought a small one for myself. My dream is to get a much bigger one though, ideally, one to fit my bed.

I hope to one day get a start on this wish list. If anyone has tried one of these products, please leave a review! I would love to know what you think.

  1. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and I agree with the weighted blanket. I bought one for myself early last year and I know that the times that I use it –I think it helps me.

    1. Great list! Years ago I was walking across a compound in the winter, and slipped on ice, and landed on my back. I tore two disc, and have had constant pain which has over the years gotten worse, but I found something that heals the root cause naturally. http://tiny.cc/suqbez

  2. Years ago i got a heated mattress pad and it absolutely was one of the best purchases i ever made. That was long before my fibro diagnosis. Over the last year or two i can’t tolerate heat at all, so it is in a closet somewhere. I would definitely recommend splurging if heat helps you!

  3. I have gone through 2 warming mattress pads and now I’m on my third one. And I live in Phoenix! I do only use it during our winter, when I just cannot warm up. I wore out 2 Sunbeam brand pads, and after lots of research I bought a Perfect Fit Warming Pad (about $115 queen size on Amazon) primarily due to its better reviews and construction, but it also uses low voltage so that there are NO electromagnetic fields emitted (we don’t need extra problems!). I have used my present one since 2009 and still going strong. It really helps my sleep to just “warm up” the bed on cold nights. So nice. I have also tried several memory foam driving wedges (Desk Buddy, fairly expensive but no breakdown at all in 5 years) and lumbar supports as well. Good luck. I wish we all had enough $$ to try everything!
